PR House Full refurbishment and extension in East London

This project involved the complete refurbishment and extension of a residential property in East London, adding approximately 30m² of additional floor area across two interventions.

The existing kitchen was extended and connected to the living and dining areas, which previously sat at different levels. Levelling the floor plane unified the ground floor into a single, flowing space. A rooflight positioned at the centre of this new open-plan area floods the south-facing interior with natural light throughout the day, the most transformative element of the project.

An adjacent ruined volume was fully rehabilitated and brought back into use. The lower level now houses storage, services and an additional bathroom; the upper level has become a study and reading room, also benefiting from generous natural light and it’s directly connected with the new kitchen open plan space.

The extension was built in black brick, with all new windows and external finishes in black, a considered material palette that gives the addition a clear identity while sitting confidently alongside the existing building.

The works extended to both the front and rear external spaces. The front yard was redesigned to include an additional parking space, and the rear garden was finished with a black deck, extending the interior material language outwards and creating a usable outdoor space in keeping with the overall design.

The full scope of works included planning application, complete renewal of electrical, plumbing and heating installations, bathroom refurbishment and the design of two additional bathrooms. Juan managed contractor selection alongside the client and provided support throughout the construction process.
